1. We inspire children to become effective readers and writers by providing targeted reading intervention instruction.
2.Through our Parent Literacy Workshop, we coach and empower parents with proven strategies to support their reader at home.
3. We strengthen our communities by hosting a myriad of literacy-based professional development training for schools and other organizations.
It all started with a vision. At just five years old Candice Williams knew that she wanted to become a teacher someday, even though she struggled academically. After spending 10 years in the schools as a teacher, mentor, and Reading Specialist, she's been awarded and recognized for her hard work and dedication. Urby Education was created to solve a problem!
Urby's Making a Difference Globally: Candice decided to take her passion into her own hands. Check out her global effort to put an end to illiteracy. Urby's Online Parent Literacy Course has over 1,000 parents from 90 countries enrolled! Parents from Ethiopiato Italy have learned how to teach their toddlers to read.
Urby's making a Difference Locally: Her team of certified teachers provide reading intervention services to students throughout the city of Detroit and its surrounding areas during Urby's Saturday Reading Program. There are hundreds of children that could benefit from Urby's Saturday Reading Program, however their space is limited due to funding. Urby's Reading Intervention Program gives parents and children access to a certified award-winning Reading Specialist, a certified teacher, and a certified Special Education Teacher. This resource is vital, especially with Michigan's Read By Grade Three Law in effect. Did you know that 50% of our children are NOT proficient in reading?
Coaching teachers and parents to utilize effective reading instructional practices is one of her chief passions as well. Mrs.Williams expects to open Urby's Literacy Center to expand her program in order to meet the needs of her community. Click here to learn more about Urby Education, LLC
